Fresh Herbs!
Yesterday I got my butt in gear and finished prepping my herb container garden. I'm sure the little plants I've been coddling for the past month are relieved to finally have some room to stretch their roots out and get growing...
I found an old fruit basket in the basement that had seen better days and lined it with a garbage bag. Then I tacked it around the top with a staple gun to create a liner. Next I filled the liner halfway to the top with unusable plastic grocery bags. Yay for recycling! Also, the container would not be too heavy to move around if needed.
Then I covered the bags with a medium thick layer of newspaper to keep all my soil in one spot, instead of trickling down into the plastic bags. I topped that off with two small bags of topsoil and planted my carefully collected herbs inside.
I had two small sweet basil plants, a lemon basil, oregano, regular and lemon thymes, and a purple sage. I plan on adding some basil seeds to the raised beds out back and see if I can get some heavy pesto production going around the last of July.
Pictures of the entire garden are going to have to wait until I can locate the camera battery charger. I never can find that thing...it drives me nuts. One of these days, I may just have to break down and get a digital camera that runs on regular AA batteries, just to save my sanity.

Here is a gardening quote for you: "A weed is just a plant whose virtues are yet to be discovered."
