What was I thinking?
Last night, Mom wanted to go to Disney on Ice. She had taken me to see Beauty and the Beast on Ice after the movie had come out several (many) years ago, and had more recently gone by herself to see the show dedicated to the Disney Princesses last year.I agreed to go, but knew deep down that this was a bad thing and I should avoid it like the plague.
We got to Rupp Arena a bit ahead of schedule and found our seats. We had waded in through the masses of kids stringing along behind parents and grannies, and those who were so excited they were running and jumping and shouting in the entrance.
I marveled at the assortment of souvenirs available as we came in. Anything and everything designed to separate you from your dollars could be had for a price. Unfortunately, that price was so steep I had to read it twice to make sure I wasn't blind. They wanted to sell you a snowcone in a character mug for $12. Crazy!
The show started and was pretty good overall. The skating was strong, and highlighted some of the most memorable moments from the entire Disney repertoire.
I missed some of the older characters, like Lady and the Tramp, but most of the newer movies were covered.
Mom's favorite part of the show was when Jiminy Cricket came out to tell the story of Pinocchio. He is her favorite if all the Disney characters. She was practically jumping up and down in her seat. :) It was really nice to see her having a good time for a change.
Oh, and the reason I was dreading to attend this cultural event? I came down with a creeping crud sinus congestion two days later. I warn you, never go to anything where you're breathing the same air as 5,000 school age children if you want to come out healthy on the other side.
